6,000 pages worth of documents have been submitted to the IRS Whistleblower Office as evidence of corruption and unfair business practices within several CVB and Chamber of Commerce organizations across South Carolina.

In an interview with The Nerve, whistleblower Skip Hoagland said he believes that many chambers and CVBs are “in violation of their non-profit status” as permitted under federal law and have “failed to pay their fair share” of federal taxes, known as “unrelated business income tax,” which generally tax-exempt organizations are required to pay for certain profit-making activities.
